My mother died from very aggressive breast cancer in 1998, at the age of 49. In 2025 I was informed I carry the BRCA 1 gene and at high risk of following a similar path. To me the way forward was clear. The privilege of genetic testing afforded me that rare opportunity of chance; something I do not take for granted, and which I know is not journey for most flat women.
Only reconstruction was offered, never Aesthetic Flat Closure (AFC). Weighing up all the risks, I knew reconstruction wasn't for me. My decision was not taken lightly, or unconsidered. I have found a quiet acceptance of my choice and I am grateful for everyday of life.
My research lead me to find that 'Flatties' are an underserved community in the clothing industry. Choices are limited and mostly consist of making do with clothes not designed for the specific changes to our bodies.
‘Flatties’ should not have to choose between beauty and confidence; between conformist views of beauty and compromising our femininity. We should continue, and perhaps for the first time, feel empowered by our ‘transformed’ beauty. I do this for all the women who are surivors and previsors.
Every piece is designed to ensure it is flattering, functional and transformative, manufactured in an environmentally respectful manner. So, that’s [chohz] : transformative style for transformed women, without compromise.
